We often post about our adventures as solo travelers with captions about finding ourselves, with friends both new and old, or alongside our partners (remember the #FollowMe couple and the frenzy that followed?), but what about our families?

Alex, the founder of a motivational project called Looking for Heroes, recently spent a month traveling the US with her retired mother. The two have always wanted to take a trip but "there was never the right time." They went from New York to Los Angeles, with a few stops in between. They documented the trip with video footage and photos of themselves holding hands at memorable locations.

According to her official website, Alex wanted to take action after her grandma passed away. She realized then that neither her or her mother would be around forever. She later titled the trip "The Time is Now." Check it out below. You'll feel inspired to plan your own trip.

    Looking for Heroes

Alex started the project Looking for Heroes because she needed more positivity in her life. She began by photographing people that she knew but later approached strangers with some important questions. She asked what made them happy, what motivated them, and what their dreams were.

    The Time is Now

This young woman believes that “everybody is a hero in a sense.” One hero of hers is her mother, who she took on a month-long trip across the US. Here they are hiking the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Isn't the view incredible? It's always better to share these moments with someone you love.

Here's the sweet pair during their trip in New York, facing the iconic Statue of Liberty.

It isn't a stop in New York without a visit to Times Square!

“Your life is the biggest gift you have ever received and no one knows how much time you have on this earth. Don’t wait for the right time to come,” Alex wrote on her page.

“To be who you want to be, to do the things you want to do, to say the things you want to say…do it now. The right time will never come until you make it the right time.”

Make sure to check out how the video project turned out below, and if you can, don't forget to hug your mom today!

  • The 13 Most Annoying People In Yoga Class… #9 Is The Absolute Worst.

One of the first things you learn when practicing yoga is to let go of every noise happening in your head. It’s vital to be completely open as this ancient discipline requires mental, physical, and spiritual focus.

Still, it’s hard to just let go. We have been programmed to always be on. Whether it’s commuting with the hustle and bustle of traffic, staying connected to the world through our mobiles and laptops, and making sure all of our work, as well as social life is always full.

Being able to breath in deeply and truly open your body and mind requires time. Once you achieve this zen, yogis promise you will achieve a level of body and mind enlightenment. Nonetheless, there are distractions that can make the most discipline person lose their concentration. Some are easier to avoid than others. Nonetheless, there are certain diversions that cannot be avoided, regardless of how hard you try.

It can be quite tempting to simply stop and pull of the piece of toenail or even hanging skin.

Not every person is born the same and that's what makes our world so great. Everyone goes through life with their own unique obstacles. Life isn't supposed to be easy. When you encounter a hardship, you learn how to overcome it and better yourself from it. Everyone comes across these hardships at different times in their lives. You can approach a sudden obstacle in the middle of your life or you can be greeted with one right when you're born.

Vasilina Knutzen, for example, was born without any arms. But such a little thing doesn't bother little Vasilina at all. In fact, she's already learned how to become more resourceful by using her other body parts during in substitution for her arms.

Most toddlers prefer to be fed by their parents, but not this girl. Even though she has no arms, she's managed to figure out a way to feed herself.

  • Woman Builds A 55-Inch Wide House To Get Revenge On Her Greedy Ex.

It is only natural for adults to have disagreements. You can’t possibly agree on everything but hopefully years of being a grown-up has given you the skills and tools to deal with a dispute. Some, however, take their contentions a little too far.

There is a particular type of individual who does not know when to back down. These persons are not looking to get back at their nemesis with one slight, they want the pain and insult to be long and everlasting. And what better way to remind an adversary to not cross you than by teaching them a lesson, every single day of their lives.

Spite houses are a mean and cruel way to get back at someone. Spending the money to erect a house to get under someone’s skin may be the ultimate act of revenge. The Montlake Spite House in Seattle is a testament of the hate two individuals had for one another.

  • A Heavenly Cat Sanctuary Exists, And The 500 Kittens Would LOVE You To Visit.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_168511_lifebuzz-4282dee0d8ac618c4765a911250969b7-thumb_800

Ooh heaven is a place on Earth… well as far as cats are concerned it is and it has a name. It's called the Lanai Cat Sanctuary and it's located in Hawaii, which as of now, is no longer just a paradise for humans. The sanctuary can be found in the tiny island of Lanai and is home to nearly 500 cats who can get shelter, protection and food from the caretakers here. But it's also a cat petting zoo of sorts and you can join the countless number of visitors who have jumped at the opportunity to spend a little time with these adorable felines.

What started out as a way of controlling the feline population on the island turned into something amazing.

Executive director Keoni Vaughn and sanctuary manager, Mike, aka the chief cat herder, came up with the idea of the sanctuary back in 2004.

Although sterilizing the felines was a priority, the sanctuary quickly became a refuge.

Before long, a 25,000 square foot area had been radically transformed into a place that stray cats could finally call home.

Cats can pretty much roam free and do whatever they want inside the sanctuary.

That might even include climbing on top of some of the guests that come to pay them visit.

The Lanai sanctuary means so much more to these cats than simple shelter.

The island of Lanai isn’t very big and lacks the resources these cats need that are often found in the mainland. Fortunately, the sanctuary has everything that they need to survive.

Don't expect to see any cages anywhere within the establishment like a conventional shelter.

These little kitties have free reign and can go off and explore the sanctuary or just pile on top of each other for some good old fashioned cuddle time.

When word got out that this sanctuary existed, it quickly became a feline attraction.

People from different parts of the world came to visit these furballs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all week long, including Saturdays and Sundays.

You can literally pet your day away. Trust us! The cats won't mind.

They actually love the attention they get from visitors.

This isn't a temporary shelter for these kitties either. They're here to stay.

Of course if any of the visitors wish to adopt or foster a cat, the option is available. And the cat that remains ownerless is more than welcome to hang out rent free with its hundreds of other roomies.

Sometimes, a little TLC is as good for you as it is for them.

Who can resist or even dare to say no to these cats when they climb up on your lap and purr with happiness?

If you prefer being left alone then this is not the place for you.

The felines will swarm towards you and overwhelm you with their love, which is why they’re so popular.

A happy feline life doesn't get any better than this.

There’s no shortage of places that a cat will find to get cozy in, whether that means sitting on the grass or sitting on one of your legs, your stomach or chest.

Cats love to climb on trees and furniture, all of which are available at the sanctuary.

They certainly won’t get bored perching on the various crates, shelves and chairs. It’s like the ultimate obstacle course, complete with challenges to meet any cat’s needs.

It's the perfect Purr-adise, because why should humans be the only ones that get to enjoy Hawaii.

This little one is living the life with a Hawaiian lei around its neck. The only thing that’s missing is a Pina Colada.

Visiting the sanctuary is fun for the whole family, especially the kids.

These cats absolutely adore the attention they get from children.

If you do decide to adopt one, you might find choosing just one a lot harder to do.

They’re just too darn adorable and you’ll feel like taking them all.

This sanctuary will totally renew your faith in humanity and the future of other stray and feral cats.

You almost want to consider moving in with them. There’s plenty of food and you can sleep in the open air.

Keoni and Mike take pride in their cleanliness of the sanctuary.

So even those of you who suffer from allergies to cat dander will find it pleasant to walk around in the open-aired facility.

Guests who have already visited the sanctuary swear they'll come back again and again.

So what are you waiting for. Plan your next vacation in Hawaii. The Lanai island is super easy to get to. So start saving up money and the Benadryl.

  • Miss Iceland Was Told To Lose Weight, But Her Powerful Response Went Viral.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_168875_lifebuzz-a49ce9f7b61324f819ed8c2232dab662-thumb_800

Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir of Reykjavik earned the titles Miss Iceland and Miss EM but made the brave decision to drop out of the Miss Grand International event in Las Vegas after being told that she needed to lose weight.

According to the official website, the event is the world's leading international beauty pageant as well as one of the 5 Grand Slam Beauty Pageants alongside Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Supranational. Their mission is to "make a stand for the betterment of humanity." The description continues quite laboriously about the end to war, violence, and other peaceful ideals.

Jónsdóttir told the Iceland Monitor that the owner of the contest advised her to "stop eating breakfast, eat salad for lunch" four days before the final show.

She responded by saying, "If [he] really wants me to lose weight and doesn't like me the way I am, then he doesn't deserve to have me in the top 10."

The 20-year-old isn't leaving it at that. She is an international model for NIKE, where she can embrace her "sporty body." Fans are comparing her to the ever fierce Katniss Everdeen and while we can see some similarities, we can also see that she is paving her own legacy.

Continue reading to learn more about Arna and to read her official goodbye letter to the man that shamed her.

Meet Miss Iceland 2015, Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir.

Arna just quit the Miss Grand International pageant in Las Vegas after the owner, Nawat Itsaragrisil, suggested she shed a few before the final show. He reportedly sent this message to her four days before the final show.

Here's a glimpse of her stunning body.

She has more of an athletic build than some of her competitors — she’s been practicing gymnastics since she was 10 years old — but does that warrant being given weight loss advice? Not a chance.

Goodbye to you, Miss Grand International pageant. Read the official handwritten letter she turned in below.

Here's Arna glimmering in gold in an official shot for the pageant, which she says will be her last contest.

We still have yet to learn who the winner of the pageant is but due to her courageous move, we believe Arna to be the honorary winner.

People are comparing her to Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games, especially in this shot for NIKE.

Forget having just salad and water. This strong woman knows how to take care of her body the right way.

“My past has made me who I am today. I’m so proud to be one of the faces for Nike and if I would not have my sporty body I would never have gotten this huge opportunity to work with NIKE,” Arna wrote on Instagram.

Arna also looks like one of our favorite Disney queens in her National Costume. And just like Elsa, she knew just when to "Let It Go."

When it comes to a child’s drawing and painting, parents swear they have produced the next Picasso. The abstract and convoluted pieces kids make is only proof of their highly artistic skills. The fact that their sketches have more to do with motor skills developing than raw talent is a moot point.

To prove to the world that the next great artist is here, parents proudly post their offspring’s creation on social media. Getting a lot of likes from family and friends just adds to the conviction that this kid is a total prodigy.

Six-year-old Dom has over 13,000 Instagram followers and not everyone is related to him. His fans just love his sketches and doodles. His thingsihavedrawn account is filled with dinosaurs, fish, gnomes, spaceships, and other wildlife. And like a true artist, there is always a twist with his masterpieces with a little help from his dad.

Dom's dad takes his son's creations and brings them to life with the use of digital art.

The Easter Bunny gets a makeover in full colour and surrounded in bright, green grass.

Dom was out in the garden when he spotted a butterfly. Naturally, he had to draw one himself.

"He's the king of the zoo – the biggest wild cat. But he won't scare a thing with a smile like that," his dad posted on Instagram.

A visit to the London Aquarium got Dom into drawing his own clown fish.

The ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in the United Kingdom is the perfect place for Dom to find animal-muses.

Of all the animals Dom has sketched, the elephant is by far his favourite.

The six-year-old is not shy about changing the theme of his subjects. Here, he makes a perfect drawing of his dad.

  • Girl Bullied For Her Unusually Dark Skin Just Landed A Modeling Contract.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_168746_lifebuzz-7c359d99be25c144df9c894816ad7565-thumb_800

Sengalese model Khoudia Diop, known as @melaniin.goddess on Instagram and the "blackest girl in Africa," has been receiving praise from thousands of new fans for embracing her unique skin tone.

When something like this makes news, it's clear that colorism and racial tensions continue to strain our relationships and perspectives, but we still consider the opportunity to speak on these issues a positive thing.

Khoudia first drew attention in the media when she was featured in The Colored Girl (TCG) Project this past summer. Ten black women were selected through social media and robed in beautiful gowns of complementing colors of beige and gold for a breathtaking series by photographer Joey Rosado.

Each of the women stand out for their own shade, glow, and features, highlighting TCG founder Tori Elizabeth's belief in "[showing] the different aspects of beauty as it pertains to Black women." She and co-founder Victory Jones described how their own experiences as black women — scars and strength — led to this project.

Khoudia has the darkest skin of the bunch and there are others that will also stand out depending on your own standards. These differences are something that we should take note of because there really is no one standard for beauty. And yet, so many of us act like it. Discrimination is not just experienced between racial profiles but within them. Just look at bleaching practices in Asian and African countries where lighter skin is favored.

The invitation to reclaim beauty rather than redefine it is empowering. In reclaiming, you acknowledge that the beauty has always been there.

Meet the ever captivating Khoudia Diop, a Sengalese model with a story to share.

With a smile like that, you'd never guess that this 19-year-old has been bullied her whole life.

She is comfortable in her own body, her own skin, and frequently posts about self-love on her Instagram.

Here's Khoudia with other beautiful women in The Colored Girl Project.

They're embracing their different skin tones and reclaiming beauty in a powerful way.

According to The Daily Mail Online, Khoudia's goal is to inspire and empower black women. She says that "more diversity is needed on catwalks," and we couldn't agree more.

Even though she has over 260k followers on Instagram, where she refers to herself as "Melanin Goddess," she still receives negative comments.

One woman wrote that if she had Khoudia's skin color, she would "triple bleach [her] soul" because she would be scared of her own reflection.

    Here’s how Khoudia responded:

“You got it wrong sis ! Trust me because [waking] up and seeing my chocolate ass in the mirror is the first thing I do everyday and I can tell you how priceless it is to me and how bad I want to marry myself😂 every time I see my smile in the mirror, it doesn’t scare me at all because it is who I am and I love it.”

Despite this, Khoudia spends little time addressing such negativity. Most of her Instagram posts are solo shots with inspiring captions. She also has a few with one very lucky man.

We don't know much about him but they sure make a stunning pair. Looking forward to seeing Khoudia's positivity to girls everywhere!

Like most other dog owners, I have no problem with letting my pups give me kisses.

The one thing I won’t let them do, though, is lick near my mouth…because obviously, that’s just gross. I know for some, that’s crazy talk, but hear me out! While I’ve mostly been concerned about their bad breath, experts say letting them lick your lips really isn’t good for your health.

The old adage about dogs’ mouths being cleaner may be true, but not enough where you’d want to share their germs. Allowing your pup to lick your mouth can actually transmit nasty diseases that we aren’t meant to tolerate.

Over 20 years ago, Amanda Lemmond lost her mother to bone cancer. The 10-year-old was placed in foster care with nothing more than a stuffed Easter bunny to remember her by.

Lemmond thought her past had been forgotten. Then, a strange box arrived on the porch of her Colorado home. Inside were photos, her birth certificate, and, most incredibly, letters her mom had written just weeks before she died. While moving, the executor of her mother’s estate found the keepsakes and forwarded them along.

Watch as she finally reads one of the letters her mother wrote her over two decades ago.

    Lemmond told NBC News:

“After my mom passed away, I was shipped all over the country. From Washington States to Texas, to Louisiana, to Texas, back to Washington, back to Texas
    — in and out of state care
    — foster care. These are a glimpse into my past that I’ve sorely longed for, for over two decades now.”
