Not every cake is created equal. Regular folks rely on store-bought boxes and a tub of icing to make simple looking cakes that hopefully will taste good. There are others who look at baking as much as a culinary skill as well as the perfect opportunity to let their inner artist out.

Pinterest is full of ideas and step-by-step instructions how to make your own edible art pieces. Likewise, as many photos online have the hilarious side-by-side comparison of the professionally made dessert versus the one made by a regular person.

It’s fair to say certain things are best left for the professionals to do. Laura Loukaides is not a baker by trade but her cake creations look like they are made by someone who has been in the business for decades. Still, in two short years this guru has made herself the person whose cake everyone wants to replicate.

  • 24 Rare Behind The Scenes Photos From Classic Horror Movies.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_164226_lifebuzz-12ef2694c43aa2f407951fad48841dd0-thumb_800

There's a huge difference between gory slasher movies and horror movies. Mainly, a lot less blood and torture scenes. The horror movie genre is entertaining, and offers captivating tension and thrill for all the millions of fans who could never get a kick out of a simple chick flick, or a comedy movie.

Horror movie plots are are so alluring to those who need to feel the thrill of the story, empathize with its characters pain, and see a resolution that mostly just involves the villain getting what they deserve, all while munching on a second bucket on popcorn. Hollywood, being no stranger to this psychological phenomenon, created some of the most incredible horror flicks that are now timeless classics. Let's take a look at the effort and creativity that went on behind the scenes of these classic horror movies.

#1. Nick Castle doesn't seem so intimidating playing with his mask in the set of 'Michael Myers.'

Michael Myers did his first appearance in John Carpenter’s Halloween as a kid who murdered his older sister, and over a decade later comes back to kill more teens. But while the story was gruesome, the behind the scenes was a lot of fun.

Nick Castle doesn't seem so intimidating playing with his mask in the set of 'Michael Myers.'

#2. In the set of 'Carrie', no one was laughing at her!

Sissy Spacek played a young, innocent and shy high school teen by the name of Carrie who was relentlessly bullied and abused by students at school. The real actress however, didn’t let a little blood on her dress ruin her day and had a blast while filming.

In the set of 'Carrie', no one was laughing at her!

#3. Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson took their breaks seriously during ‘The Shining.’

Jack Torrance was a caretaker in charge of taking care of a desolate Hotel in Colorado. The place was swarmed by horrible tales of people dying there, much like the old caretaker who had developed “cabin fever” and killed his family. The story was packed with demonic premonitions, but could anyone predict how grueling shooting some of the movie scenes would be? It is said that Stanley Kubrick was beyond harsh with Shelley Duvall, who wants nothing to do with acting after shooting The Shining.

Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson took their breaks seriously during ‘The Shining.’

#4. ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2’ was indisputably gross, but they found a way to have fun too.

Leatherface was a character inspired on the grueling life of Ed Gein, a serial killer that murdered and snatched his victims and ate them, among other horrifying things. But Bill Johnson, the guy who played him, was no stranger to getting bitten by the innocent cast.

‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2’ was indisputably gross, but they found a way to have fun too.

#5. Pennywise's makeup was on point in the set of "It."

Stephen King’s frightful movie centered around the kids that belonged to “The Loser Club”, and how they go on to fight an evil spawn posing as a child-killing clown. If that’s not enough to deter you from watching, then you’re probably into S&M. Despite giving children nightmares for years and being the cause of a phobia, (called coulrophobia), Pennywise is quite docile off camera, while he allows a makeup artist to touch up his face. Vanity!

Pennywise's makeup was on point in the set of "It."

#6. Hannibal Lecter prefered snacking on humans, but Anthony Hopkins prefered French fries

Hannibal loved to munch on human brains, not particularly due to the taste, but to impose psychological dominion over his prey. Challenge him, and you will end up grilled, sauteed or broiled. Work with him behind the scenes, and you will end up feeding actor Sir Anthony Hopkins some fries.

Hannibal Lecter prefered snacking on humans, but Anthony Hopkins prefered French fries

#7. This ‘Jaws’ scared no one on set.

The movie that probably had every kid avoiding the ocean for years doesn’t seem half as horrifying when you see how docile and…well, lifeless that gigantic animatronics really was.

This ‘Jaws’ scared no one on set.

#8. This more-than-friendly ‘Frankenstein’ would've gotten a lot more party invitations!

Boris Karloff played the horrifying creation that was conceived through rotten body parts from different corpses in the 1931 movie Frankenstein. Judging by the classy way this monster has tea and biscuits, it’s safe to say that one of those body parts was probably British.

This more-than-friendly ‘Frankenstein’ would've gotten a lot more party invitations!

#9. Heath Ledger shooting the beginning of the movie ‘The Dark Knight.’

8 years ago, we said goodbye to one of Hollywood’s greatest actors. Heath’s character The Joker was so well executed he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting actor postmortem. Heath was deeply invested in his character’s insanity, but can be seen here enjoying a peaceful moment before madness ensued.

#10. Not everything was real on the set of Hitchcock’s ‘Birds.’

If you thought the birds on the movie by the same name, directed by the great Alfred Hitchcock, were real, think again. Hundreds of ravens, crows and gulls receiving training for the movie, but they resorted to using animatronics for specific scenes.

Not everything was real on the set of Hitchcock’s ‘Birds.’

#11. Freddy Krueger stretching his face in the set of Nightmare on Elm Street.

Freddy Krueger was one of those villains that could rip you to shreds if you weren’t careful. But the adoring Robert Englund was more into ripping off his mask after many hours of heavy filming.

Freddy Krueger stretching his face in the set of Nightmare on Elm Street.

#12. Johnny Depp smoking a joint and holding a super-soaker on the set of ‘Sleepy Hollow’ is our new favorite thing.

We all know Johnny Depp is the type of actor that knows how to have fun. Well, except for his botched marriage to Amber Heard. But while he was shooting ‘Sleepy Hollow’ there was no shortage of fun and freedom.

Johnny Depp smoking a joint and holding a super-soaker on the set of ‘Sleepy Hollow’ is our new favorite thing.

#13. 1941 introduced a werewolf named “The Wolf Man” who terrorized villagers.

You know the story by now, a man gets bitten by a wolf and transforms into one that seeks blood, stalking the villagers and kills people only to wake up and forget it all the next day. But actor Lon Chaney probably never forgot about the grooming sessions he had backstage.

1941 introduced a werewolf named “The Wolf Man” who terrorized villagers.

#14. It seems no one wanted to run away from this Freddy Krueger who loved to listen to music on his walkman behind the scenes.

Freddy may be a razor-packed glove wearing serial killer freak who’d probably have you running for the hill, but this Freddy right here almost makes you forget about his grueling past.

It seems no one wanted to run away from this Freddy Krueger who loved to listen to music on his walkman behind the scenes.

#15. ‘The Exorcist’ was one of the creepiest movies to ever hit the screen.

Linda Blair’s parents were heavily criticized for allowing her to play such a heavy role at such a tender age. By the looks of the demonic child and the many aspects that made this movie horrifying, it’s easy to see why it was so controversial. The bedrooms were icy cold and refrigerated to get that icy breath effect, while Linda wore nothing but a nightgown.

‘The Exorcist’ was one of the creepiest movies to ever hit the screen.

#16. ‘Child’s Play’ was the movie that probably got parents and kids to look under the bed twice.

Don Mancini created a successful movie franchise that sent thrills down parents and children alike. Chucky, a possessed evil doll is the stuff of nightmares. He was powerful and always found a way to survive. But he doesn’t look half as intimidating now that his cables are showing in this behind the scenes shot.

‘Child’s Play’ was the movie that probably got parents and kids to look under the bed twice.

#17. ‘The Shining’ was a hard movie to shoot.

Particularly for Shelley Duvall who by all accounts, was bullied and treated miserably by Stanley Kubrik who wanted to “get the best” and “most real” expressions and reactions off of her. But it seems like playing Jack was a hell of a lot more fun!

‘The Shining’ was a hard movie to shoot.

#18. Even the dark alien who wanted nothing more than to terminate any human he encountered needs to take a break between shots.

Sometimes you can end up shooting scenes for up to 16 to 20 hours!

Even the dark alien who wanted nothing more than to terminate any human he encountered needs to take a break between shots.

#19. “King Kong vs. Godzilla” was sort of equal parts DIY and CGI.

If you ever felt sorry for the homeowners that got their houses smashed, or the historical places that got totaled in the movie “King Kong vs. Godzilla,” it’s okay. You’re probably grieving the loss of cardboard, string and glue!

“King Kong vs. Godzilla” was sort of equal parts DIY and CGI.

#20. Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of “Critters 3” had a lot more than he did running away from these little aliens.

This was also Leo’s debut film.

Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of “Critters 3” had a lot more than he did running away from these little aliens.

#21. Gizmo didn't say much in the movie “Gremlins,” but that's exactly why it worked.

Much of the things you hear the evil gremlins and cute-old ball of fur Gizmo is just babbling. It allowed the filmmakers to easily make it understandable in many languages. Gizmo’s appeal was globally adorable.

Gizmo didn't say much in the movie “Gremlins,” but that's exactly why it worked.

#22. The twin girls on the set of ‘The Shining’ had quite a mentor.

The psychological film featured the Grady daughters that haunted the hotel. But behind the scenes, the environment was much more welcoming. Jack Nicholson acted as a father figure and mentor, despite his stellar performance as a maniac.

The twin girls on the set of ‘The Shining’ had quite a mentor.

#23. On the set of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, a movie that scared the bejeezus out of everyone, 40 years ago.

Mia Farrow ended up getting the main role, but Roman Polanski, the director, originally wanted actress Tuesday Weld to play Rosemary. But can anyone imagine anyone better than Mia to pull off this emotionally-filled character?

On the set of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, a movie that scared the bejeezus out of everyone, 40 years ago.

    #24. Filming ‘Young Frankenstein’

Mel Brooks had a lot of fun while filming his hilarious 1974 American horror comedy flick that featured the descendant of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and parodied the whole genre. To convey this “serious horror movie” tone, he shot the whole thing in black and white, which was pretty odd in the 70s.

  • Creepy Abandoned Theme Park Offers Glimpse Into A Post-Apocalyptic World.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_164724_lifebuzz-cb32effc53aa5846b26f3d5d665afaec-thumb_800

Happy memories are made in theme parks. The life-sized tea cups, thrilling rollercoasters, and fairy tale structures do not disappoint kids as well as the grown-ups. When Disneyland Park opened in Anaheim, California in 1955, many theme parks opened up around the world capitalizing on this dreamlike adventure.

While others had a strong visitor turnout, others had a short-lived run. Nara Dreamland in Japan opened its doors in 1961 but closed in 2006. At its prime, Nara Dreamland had bubble-gum coloured merry-go-rounds, souvenir shops, and just about every ride available at that time.

Instead of demolishing the theme park, Dreamland has been left abandoned and closed off to the public. The location is patrolled to avoid people jumping the fence and vandalizing this once happy place. Still, photographer Romain Veillon took a risk and trespassed to catch a glimpse of what the park looks like now.

Businessman Kunizu Matsuo visited Disneyland in the 1950's. He was so impressed with what he saw, he wanted to bring that type of family fun to Japan.

Initially, Disneyland was involved in the concept of having their theme park in Japan. Talks failed when the two parties could not agree on the licensing fees to use the famous Disney characters.

Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, this is when Nara Dreamland number of visitors began to decline.

When Universal Studios Japan opened 40 kilometres away from Nara Dreamland, it sealed the theme park's fate.

Romain Veillon is an expert in photographing old, abandoned buildings, churches, and state homes.

The Parisian has travelled the world to capture the eerie and fascinating state things are left in.

The 32-year-old used to play as a child in abandoned buildings close to his grandparents' home.

Veillon does not like to give off the address of the locations he photographs as he wants to avoid any type of vandalizing.

The shutterbug admitted he didn't have to jump a fence, he went in through the front gate.

He included the Dreamland photos in his book, Ask the Dust.

It may appear scary that the structures seem to be reclaimed by nature, Veillon finds the experience quite peaceful.

These teacups are surrounded by ivy adds to the magical feel.

"When you think about all the good memories that were made there, you get nostalgic about the time when the park was full of joy and people," says Veillon.

The wooden roller coaster Aska, was the main attraction. It is believed the Cyclone roller coaster in New York's Coney Island served as the inspiration.

A metal roller coaster was also installed in the theme park.

The park feels like it was left behind in an apocalyptic event.

Some say the theme park is haunted. Trespassers say they can hear noises of gates being opened.

There are two theories for the unexplained noises. One is that it is a nearby running water pump and the second is the American bullfrogs.

Last year the municipality sold Dreamland to a real estate company. There has not been any movement of crew workers or demolition machines as of yet.

It is unclear if the place will be torn down. The municipality has limitations on how the land in the theme park can be used.

  • Kate Middleton Angered The Queen By Doing Something You Do Every Day.

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_164973_lifebuzz-1f484efe8b24835aade115345a2e339b-thumb_800

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is now 34 years old, a doting father and a loving husband but that doesn't mean he won't get scolded by his grandmother the Queen.

In celebration of her ninetieth birthday, the Queen attended a series of celebrations including the ceremony of Trooping the Colour. The event involved her personal troops, the Household Division, and a special parade. Altogether, there were more than 1400 officers and men as well as two hundred horses on parade. There were also some four hundred musicians to march and play for the occasion.

It was the first public appearance for Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of Prince William and Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton.

As the family watched an RAF air display, Prince William crouched down to speak to his son Prince George. The Queen quickly saw to it that her grandson rise to his feet and stand up tall. Some sources say this was probably done to maintain the royal family's public image (squatting isn't exactly the most graceful display) or to show respect to the pilots.

See photos of the event and other royal crouching moments below.

Following Trooping the Colour, the royal family stood on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch the Queen’s 90th birthday flypast.

Another point of interest for the public was the Queen’s green suit by designer Stewart Parvin, who is said to ‘understand women and the female form.’

Some described the queen as fabulous, stating that they are always looking forward to what she’s going to wear to these public events. Others criticized the color as ‘dayglo’ or ‘text message’ green.

    Parenting Skills

How do you feel about crouching down in public? Does it make a difference for those in the royal family? Take a look as the Duchess of Cambridge practices the parenting technique with Prince George while holding Princess Charlotte, and in heels! She makes it look easy but mothers know that this balancing act takes control and practice.

    Connecting with Children

When parents crouch down to meet their children at eye level, they build connections. Here’s Prince William and President Obama with Prince George. If they didn’t do this, they would definitely tower over him in an intimidating stance.

  • Why Do People Have ‘Outie’ Belly Buttons?

    cdn.lifebuzz.com_images_164986_lifebuzz-a0a08d81eb27d07319931a9502cd87b9-thumb_800

The idea and appearance of any belly buttons can be strange. Part of the reason for this is because of the belly button's isolated location. It isn't in a place that we can easily look at, and so when we start to examine our own, it might look a little weird. Another thing is that it isn't smooth like the rest of our bodies.

And then there's the question 'are you an innie or an outie?' that kids might ask in grade school.

An estimated 90% of all people have innies, which means that 10% are left with outies. Some sources say the number of people with outies is even lower. But how do people get them?

Shortly after we are born, our umbilical cord, which was used to transport nutrients from the mother to the baby during pregnancy, is cut. Many people believe that an outie can be formed when a doctor cuts the umbilical cord a certain way or at a certain distance, but there is no evidence that proves this to be true. An outie bellybutton forms from extra scar tissue or an umbilical hernia, when stomach muscles do not fuse back together properly.

In general, there are no health differences caused by an innie or outie bellybutton. If you feel pain in that area, however, there is a small possibility of incarceration, when abdominal matter gets stuck in the hernia, so make sure to get it checked by your doctor.

Continue reading for more interesting facts about outies below.

    How Outies Are Formed

Outies can be formed after the umbilical cord is cut. The ‘bump’ that you associate with an outie is usually extra scar tissue or an umbilical hernia.

    Outies Are Cleaner Than Innies

Even though innies are more common, people with outies are thought to have cleaner bellybuttons because they are less likely to build up lint, dirt, and bacteria.

  • Student Slams $10,000 Half Court Shot, How She Spends The Money… Oh Yeah!

Lots of people dream of what they would do if they sank a half court shot at a basketball game for a lot of money. It's an event that takes place all the time at basketball games across the country. It usually happens at halftime or during a stoppage of play. But it's only the rare occasion that the shot is ever made. Sponsors for the events feel pretty safe in putting up their cash or vehicles as a prize because most of the time they go unclaimed.

But when Kansas University student Jordan Stiers got involved, she made sure that her chances were good. After all, there was $10,000 on the line. But she didn't have to make the shot herself. She was allowed to choose anyone in the building that wasn't a player. She picked out Kansas University's Director of Basketball Operations, Brennan Bechard, and he didn't disappoint.

Bechard took a warm up shot but missed and things looked dim. But when it counted he launched a perfect shot that got nothing but net. The crowd went crazy and Bechard was mobbed in celebration by a crowd of friends while Stiers just stood there in shock.

  • This Woman Was A Victim Of Rape And Now Her Attacker Is Suing Her

    media.galaxant.com_000_480_597_340x252-1475645739

There is no act more devastating or personally intrusive than rape.

There is not one single way to more completely steal one’s…well, everything. Rape leaves the victim feeling exposed, raw, and vulnerable. Sometimes, the only solace a victim can find in their recovery is justice. Knowing that their abuser is being held accountable can be an important step in moving forward.

For one California woman, justice seemed to be out of reach, as she was victimized by her attacker not once, but twice. After sitting in court while he plead no contest to the lesser crime of felony assault, she was served with a lawsuit that he filed against her. Claiming defamation of character, he tried to pull her back into his sick game of victimization.

    This is just unbelievable.

Thankfully, the woman was represented by an attorney who was entirely in her corner and the case was heard by a judge with no patience for those who violate basic human rights.

I can only hope that she and her family now feel a sense of justice, and that they can finally put this painful chapter of their lives behind them.

  • This Corgi Is All Of Us When We’re Trying So Hard…But Just. Can’t. Make It.

I like to pretend that I know what I’m doing 99.9 percent of the time, but behind the scenes, I’m a total hot mess.

Don’t get me wrong, I always try my best and approach things with a positive mindset, but sometimes reality sets in and I fall flat on my face. What can I say? I’m human. We’re only midway through the week and although I can see rest and relaxation at the end of the tunnel, the struggle is REAL, my friends.

Let me be the first to admit that I can relate to this corgi pup on a spiritual level.

  • Studies Show That There’s A Good Chance You’re Overmedicating Your Children

    media.galaxant.com_000_480_543_340x252-1475625396

Getting your kids to swallow medicine when they’re sick is hard enough, but could the way you administer medicine actually make them sicker?

According to a study published by Dr. Shonna Yin, an associate professor from the NYU School of Medicine, parents are four times more likely to make a dosage error when using the cups that accompany many over-the-counter drugs.

“Our study found that parents with lower health literacy are at greater risk for making dosing errors,” Dr. Yin told CNN.

She notes that the variety of measurement units and methods used on medicine bottles can prove confusing to parents. That confusion can lead to poor dosage.

This newly released research is part of a larger study funded by the National Institutes of Health. In the experiments, over 2,000 caregivers with a child eight or younger were tested on their health literacy. The caregivers were then tested on their abilities to measure correct dosages of medicine.

The study revealed that almost 85 percent of the time, caregivers made at least one dosage error when administering medication. Approximately 64 percent of the errors were directly related to overdosing more specifically.

The first step in protecting your child’s health is to understand the signs of an overdose. According to Dr. Stan Spinner, signs of an overdose include abdominal pain, agitation, nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, and increased blood pressure. These signs may sometimes go undiagnosed by parents and are simply shrugged off as being symptoms of childhood fussiness.

Faulty packaging is essentially leading millions of parents to overdose their children in an attempt to make them feel better, so if you want to make sure you give the most accurate amount each time, consider buying a few syringes.
